¡Eureka! … Mariela Castro Espín

The Eureka Award will be bestowed on four Latin Americans for the first time this year. The awards which chose to distinguish academic excellence this year will honor four members of the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. Three  Cubans: Mariela Castro Espín, director of CENESEX, Cuba’s Center for Sex Education, Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of the City of Havana, along with Orlando Terré Camacho President of the World Organization for Special Education and Margarita Cedeño, First Lady of the Dominican Republic.

The distinction, which was created by the World Council of University Scholars (COMAU), recognizes Works of excellence in the field of academia and education the world over. It will be honoring the labor of the Cuban sexologist at the helm of the CENESEX and the National Program of Sex Education (ProNes).

COMAU, is an organization which works to motivate and advise on educational policies aimed at bettering human development, This is the first time the international organization will be honoring personalities of the Latin American and Caribbean community.

The award will coincide with the celebration of the I International Convention on Physico-motor Development and a meeting of COMAU, presided over by its head, the North American scholar, Todd Fletcher.

The Convention and meeting will be venues for the gathering of experts from 32 nations, representing 38 schools of higher education, 18 of which are from the United States.

El premio mundial Eureka, por la Excelencia Académica, será entregado a Mariela Castro Espín, directora del CENESEX, el jueves 2 de febrero, en ceremonia cultural que tendrá lugar el teatro capitalino Lázaro Peña.

La distinción, otorgada por el Consejo Mundial de Académicos Universitarios (COMAU), reconoce la labor de la sexóloga cubana al frente de CENESEX y del Programa Nacional de Educación Sexual (ProNes).

COMAU, organización que gestiona y asesora las políticas educativas del nivel superior y programas de investigación para el desarrollo humano, reconoce por primera vez a personalidades de América Latina y el Caribe.

La Excelencia Académica será concedida también a Eusebio Leal, Historiador de la Ciudad; Orlando Terré, presidente de la Organización Mundial de Educación Especial; y Margarita Cedeño, Primera dama de República Dominicana. 

La entrega de este premio se inserta en la I Convención Mundial de Psicomotricidad y la reunión de COMAU, presidida por su titular, el catedrático estadounidense Todd Fletcher.

Según Terré, asisten personas expertas de 32 países, en representación de 38 universidades, 18 de ellas estadounidenses.

Durante la ceremonia, abierta gratuitamente al público capitalino, se presentarán 12 tablas de coreografía acrobática, que participaron en el concurso mundial de esta disciplina.
